“I wasn't surprised, when I read Roger's own writing, to find it unusually good. Elegant and observant, sharp yet warm. Roger continues to be the person I turn to if I need to talk about writing, and the person I show work to when I need an impartial, smart, friendly nudge in the right direction.
He's a rare mix. A very good writer who can make other writers write better.”
Amelia Bullmore, writer (Mammals; Di and Viv and Rose; Scott & Bailey)
I’ve written the scripts for the four short films I have directed.
The latest of these are Elsewhere (2015), an adaptation of my own short story Awaydays, which was shortlisted for the Bridport Prize in 2011, Circadia (2017) and The Weather In The House (2018) which I directed for LAMDA's department of Screen and Audio Performance.
I’ve completed my first novel, Notice, and am working on a second.
I’ve written the original book and lyrics for a musical of Carnival of the Animals. This ran at London’s Riverside Studios in July 2013, where it was received with enthusiasm. A further production is planned.
I’ve written two feature scripts, Navigation and Escapement. I’m working on several others.
I’ve written seven short scripts for LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art).
LAMDA’s Department of Screen & Audio Performance commissions short films. The purpose is to showcase the screen talents of their graduating actors.
A selection of the films can be seen on their own page.
My short story Two Encounters, which has been broadcast on BBC Radio 4 (read beautifully by Paul Higgins) is reproduced here.
